The idea for the glass vessels Contrasto was born from the need to explore the infinite potentialities of glass, highlighting on one only surface the different shades of this material, with an interplay of opposites.
On one side blown glass, hand crafted, smooth and opaque, is opposed on the other to the glass named “cotisso”, shiny and sharp gem.
This contrast gives to the vessel a strong identity and a unique preciousness, emphasized also by the dimensions of the artwork, which is intentionally impressive.
The sinuous shape, abstract and rippled, typical of the artworks designed by Michela Cattai, is enhanced by the special cold finishing, which gives the piece a both aesthetical and technical strong power.
Designer
Michela Cattai currently lives in Milan and attended the Accademia di Belle Arti. She was selected to participate in a collective exhibition at the Glass Museum in Murano. Despite her residence in Milan, her heart remained forever linked to Venice, where she decided to continue her studies on glass inside the Fornace (Kiln) to personally experiment with the practice of hand-blown glass. In April of 2017, Michela was invited to present her research on glass in an exhibition at the Italian Chamber of Deputies, in the Sala del Cenacolo, in Rome. Furthermore, she participated in various exhibitions, both personal and collective, and her works are displayed in private collections and international museums alike.
