VENINI x GUCCI
Design Ancora
Project: Opachi by Tobia Scarpa - Concept: Sabato de Sarno, Michela Pellizzari
Glass object
VENINI was chosen by GUCCI to take part in the “Design Ancora” project, aspecial edition of icons from the past that epitomize Milanese and Italian design, on show at the flagship store of the Maison on Via Montenapoleone in an immersive exhibition designed by Spanish architect Guillermo Santomà. The project, conceived by Creative Director Sabato De Sarno and co-curated by Michela Pelizzari, pays homage to the innovative spirit of Italian design, which has played a pivotal role in showcasing the excellence of Italian craftsmanship worldwide.
The Opachi vase designed by Tobia Scarpa for VENINI in 1960 has been reinterpreted for the occasion using the GUCCI color “Rosso Ancora,”.
With its rounded silhouette and elegant, minimalist shapes, the Opachi vase takes its inspiration from the artifacts created by architect and designer Carlo Scarpa (Tobia Scarpa’s father), who in turn was inspired by Eastern traditions. This concept gave rise to a collection of monochrome vases crafted from blown opaline glass, whose shapes are inspired by Oriental porcelain, among VENINI’s most cherished icons still celebrated today.
