Alessandro Mendini

Designer

Born in Milan in 1931, Alessandro Mendini grew up in the world of architecture, design and art. His eclectic background led him to direct Casabella Modo and Domus, where he showed a special propensity for radical and neo-modern design.
His professional experiences include collaborations with Studio Alchimia and various industries, where Mendini worked as a consultant to help solve issues related to image and design.
In the same period, he pursued his creative flair and continued designing objects, furniture, interiors, installations, and more. His work in fact also embraces the fields of painting and sculpture, where Mendini has created several important decorative works.
Mendini has been awarded the Compasso d’Oro for design, as well as the distinction of the Architectural League in New York and has been appointed to “Chevalier des Artes et Lettres” in France.
In recent times, he and his brother Francesco have designed Casa Alessi, a tower in Hiroshima, and the Groningen Museum in Holland. In 1987, he became part of the VENINI world.
