Ron Arad

Designer

Born in Tel Aviv in 1951, Ron Arad attended the Academy of Art in Jerusalem and then the Architectural Association in London.
With Caroline Thorman he founded the design and production agency One Off in 1981, which was followed in 1989 by the architecture and design firm Ron Arad Associates. In 2008, the firm Ron Arad Architects followed.
From 1994 to 1997, he lectured in Design at the Hochschule in Vienna to then become a professor at the Royal College of Art in London, a position he held until 2009. In 2002 he received the title of Royal Designer for Industry (RDI) in recognition of his “‘sustained excellence in aesthetic and efficient design for industry”. In 2011, he received the London Design Medal and, two years later, was elected as a member of the Royal Academy of Art in London.
Due to his constant experimentation with the possibilities offered by materials like steel, aluminium and polyamide, and due to his original re-visitation of the shape and structure of furniture, Ron Arad holds a leading position in contemporary design. In VENINI he is continuing his experimentation with Where are my glasses?
